Green Survival In Action!

We will be exploring the rich history of George Genereux Urban Regional Park and its connection to the City of Saskatoon's afforestation initiative and the North American "Green Survival Program", with a slogan, "It Begins With You". In 1972-1973, the City of Saskatoon embarked on a mission to plant thousands of trees in an effort to green the city and improve the environment for its residents. This initiative was part of the larger North American "Green Survival Program - It Begins With You", which aimed to raise awareness about the importance of afforestation and encourage individuals to get involved in planting and caring for trees. As part of this initiative, the George Genereux Urban Regional Park was established and thousands of trees were planted here to create a beautiful and diverse urban forest. Today, we will be exploring some of the surviving specimens from this planting effort and learning about the important role they play in our city's ecosystem. As we walk through the park, you will see a diverse range of tree species, each with its own unique characteristics and benefits. You will also learn about the different types of habitats that exist here, from dense forests to open grassland meadows, and how these habitats support a variety of wildlife.Date and time
