Join us for the 2023 City Nature Challenge in Saskatoon and Area! Cities around the world will be collaborating to share observations of nature. Download the free iNaturalist app, and find any wild plant, animal, or other evidence of life in your city. Take a picture or record a sound and share your observations on iNaturalist or your city's chosen platform. Remember, if it's planted or taken care of by people, it's not wild. Green Survival, It Begins With You! A Janes Walk Forest Tour

In 1972-1973, the city of Saskatoon embarked on a mission to plant thousands of trees in an effort to green the city and improve the environment for its residents. This initiative, known as the Green Survival Program, was a response to the growing concern about the impact of urbanization on the natural environment. As part of the program, over 200,000 trees were planted in various areas throughout the city, including here in the two afforestation areas. Today, we will be exploring some of the surviving specimens from this planting effort and learning about the important role they

We will be exploring the rich history of George Genereux Urban Regional Park and its connection to the City of Saskatoon's afforestation initiative and the North American "Green Survival Program", with a slogan, "It Begins With You". In 1972-1973, the City of Saskatoon embarked on a mission to plant thousands of trees in an effort to green the city and improve the environment for its residents. This initiative was part of the larger North American "Green Survival Program - It Begins With You", which aimed to raise awareness about the importance of afforestation and encourage individuals to get involved in planting and caring for trees. As part of this initiative, the George Genereux Urban Regional Park was established and thousands of trees were planted here to create a beautiful and diverse urban forest. Today, we will be exploring some of the surviving specimens from this planting effort and learning about the important role they play in our city'
